How Often Should You Really Get a Facial?

This is one of the questions clients ask most, and honestly, the internet's answer of "every 4-6 weeks" isn't wrong, but it's also not the whole picture. Your skin's actual cell turnover cycle is the real reason behind that timeframe — and understanding it helps explain why consistency matters more than any single facial.

The Science Behind the 4-6 Week Rule

Your skin naturally sheds and regenerates its outer layer roughly every 28 to 40 days, depending on your age and skin health. Facials work with that cycle rather than against it — which is why getting one too frequently doesn't speed up results, and why spacing them out too far apart means you're not maintaining the progress you already made.

But It Really Depends on Your Goals

If you're maintaining generally healthy skin, every 4-6 weeks is a solid baseline. If you're actively treating acne, hyperpigmentation, or another specific concern, your esthetician may recommend a tighter schedule for a period of time — followed by spacing out to maintenance once you see progress.

If you're preparing for a specific event, the timing matters even more. Getting a facial too close to a big day (especially anything exfoliating) can leave skin temporarily red or sensitive — we generally recommend at least 1-2 weeks of buffer before anything important.

What Happens Between Appointments Matters Just As Much

A facial isn't a substitute for a consistent home routine — it's a supplement to one. Clients who see the best long-term results are the ones actually following through on their home care between visits, not just showing up monthly and hoping the facial does all the work.
