Building a Skincare Routine From Scratch: Where to Actually Start
Share
Between social media trends and endless product options, building a skincare routine can feel more complicated than it needs to be. Here's where I'd actually tell a client to start.
Start With One Concern, Not Five
Trying to fix everything at once — acne, dryness, dark spots, fine lines — usually backfires. Pick your single biggest concern and build around that first. Our Shop by Skin Concern collections on the homepage are organized around exactly this idea.
The Non-Negotiables
Regardless of your specific concern, two things belong in almost every routine: a gentle cleanser and daily SPF. Everything else is more personal to your skin and goals.
Add Slowly
Introduce one new product at a time, and give it a few weeks before judging whether it's working. Layering in five new actives at once makes it impossible to know what's actually helping — or what's causing irritation if something goes wrong.
When to Get Guidance
If you've tried the basics and aren't seeing progress, or you're not sure which products fit your specific skin, that's exactly when a professional consultation earns its cost. Take our quick skin quiz on the homepage for a starting point, or reach out for personalized guidance directly.
This article offers general skincare education and isn't a substitute for a professional consultation. Results vary by individual.
